At 76 and stuck on the waitlist for public housing, Bill Turner is on the brink of homelessness, unable to afford his own rental in a housing market at breaking point.

Mr Turner, who currently has a five-month lease in shared accommodation, says his situation has left him feeling "deserted".

"We pensioners, people of my age that are forever renters, the ones that have always rented, haven't got a hope."
