My friend, Mike Hrostoski, has a concept called "Pain Debt". The basic idea is that if you don't take the little pains to fully express yourself, you will pay it in one shot later on. And that one shot of pain will be very destructive.

Expanding on that, there exists pain interest. Let me give you an example.

If I procrastinate on my work today, I will have much more work to do tomorrow.

Though it might be painful to do the work today, it will be much more painful if I save it for tomorrow. I will have to pay in pain + interest.

Pain needs to be paid up front, on a regular basis, lest the interest accrues. You don't want that kind of interest.
