Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands, might seem like a sleepy town at first sight. But because 1 in 4 of the town’s 200,000 population is a student thanks to huge university campus the city has a youthful, fun energy.

Gay Star News reporter Shannon Powers is from Melbourne, a city in Australia often overlooked by tourists, so she totally got Groningen's appeal and was ready to give this lesser-known city a shot.
