What should local government focus on first?

Fixing roads.
Maintaining infrastructure.
Keeping taxes under control.
Supporting small businesses.
Handling the basics responsibly.

Jedi Lykins says too many city councils have lost sight of those priorities.

Instead of focusing on essential services and responsible budgeting, local officials often spend millions on flashy projects while everyday community concerns get pushed aside.

Jedi points to a growing culture of complacency and lack of accountability inside local government. According to him, city officials routinely bring forward spending proposals ranging from thousands to millions of dollars, and many council members simply rubber-stamp them without serious debate or questioning.

Meanwhile, small business owners struggle under regulations and zoning restrictions.

One example that stood out to Jedi involved a woman operating a tiny salon with only one employee out of her church fellowship hall. Despite minimal impact on the surrounding area, she was denied approval to continue operating.

At the same time, city leaders approved massive spending on projects like multimillion-dollar pickleball courts.

That contrast is exactly why many residents are frustrated.

Government should serve the people—not operate on autopilot while ignoring common sense and basic priorities.

Jedi believes local leadership starts with accountability, asking tough questions, and making sure taxpayer dollars are spent where they actually matter.
