Walking in the Katanokka district in Helsinki, Finland. Katajanokka is a district in Helsinki located on the eastern shore of the city center. It is separated from the mainland by the Katajanokka Canal, which is crossed by four bridges. The Kanavaranta area, located right next to the bridges, has recently developed into a cluster of trendy restaurants with terraces spreading out in front of an old brick building, creating a popular urban oasis by the sea.

Until the 19th century, most of Katajanokka's buildings were shanties and warehouses. In the early 1800s, barracks were built at the tip of the peninsula for military use, and later, harbor areas and even a prison were located in the area. The well-preserved Art Nouveau-style blocks built in the early 1900s form a remarkably uniform complex even on a European scale. Today, around 4,000 Helsinki residents call Katajanokka home.
