Fossil-Fuel Subsidies: Problems, Opportunities and Making Reform Work Sustainably

Where would you invest $500 billion? This video looks at why it's a problem that the world's countries spend an average of around $500 billion per year on subsidies for fossil-fuel consumption -- as well as the opportunities that could be created if this money were freed up to help deliver on sustainable development. The video was created in a cooperation between the IISD's Global Subsidies Initiative (http://www.iisd.org/gsi) and the World Bank Institute's Climate Change Practice unit (http://wbi.worldbank.org/wbi/topic/climate-change).
