Japanese farmers are increasingly turning to an old practice of using human waste as fertiliser, known as shimogoe, as prices for the more popular chemical alternatives have surged following Russia’s war in Ukraine. Despite the relatively cheaper price of shimogoe, the fertiliser faces a branding image problem.
