Now, Serena is preparing herself for the next season looking to lift the Australian Open Title. And Alexis has been there to cheer and fist pump throughout her journey to the finals.

While conquering the tennis world, she's had her husband, Reddit and Initialized Capital co-founder Alexis Ohanian, by her side. Though she has nothing but wonderful things to say about married life now, Serena told Allure that romance was one of the last things on her mind when they first crossed paths back in 2015.

“It just hadn’t happened, and I really didn’t think about it much,” she told the magazine. “I was so committed to my job, and to being the best and working the hardest, and I think I still am.”

According to Vanity Fair, the two met at the Cavalieri hotel in Rome. Serena was about to play her first match in the Italian Open. The story goes that Serena went to go sit in the pool area and order breakfast.

Meanwhile, Alexis, who was a bit hung over from a night of drinking with Kristen Wiig, sat down at a nearby table. At first, Serena and her friends were annoyed that he was sitting so close to them.

When Serena's attempt to get him to move failed, she invited Alexis to join them. Soon after, they began dating in June 2015 — right before the French Open.By April 2016, the pair was still going strong and Alexis began to make more and more appearances in the stands at her matches.

Alexis knew at that point that he wanted to marry Serena, but the two decided to keep quiet about their relationship. Then, in November 2016, Serena finally posted their first photo together at a Halloween party.

Just one month later, Alexis dropped to one knee and asked Serena to marry him. Ironically (and romantically), he did so at the same place where they first met — right by the pool at the Rome Cavalieri.

The exciting news just kept coming for Alexis and Serena. Right before Serena jetted off to the Australian Open in January 2017, the tennis superstar found out that she was expecting. Serena ended up winning the Australian Open, while eight weeks pregnant.

“I loved being pregnant,” Serena explained to Allure.“I loved everything about it. I was one of those weird people that loved being pregnant. Those annoying people.”

Before they knew it, the couple welcomed their daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., into the world on September 1, 2017. Two months later, the couple tied the knot at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans.

"I think having a baby might help. When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born," she told Vogue.

"Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me.”

When he can, Alexis will go to Serena's matches as much as possible. But given that his job requires him to travel a lot as well, the two have to deal with being apart frequently.

As he told Glamour, the couple will compare calendars at the beginning of every year and try to map out their schedules so they aren't separated from each other for more than one week at a time.

Whether it’s cheering her on from the side lines or gushing about her in the press, the 36-year-old has captured the world’s attention for his honesty, relatability and overall adorableness in approach to his tennis star wife.

Standing on the sidelines during Serena’s women’s singles match against Britain’s Katie Boulter at the Hopman Cup in January 2019, the Reddit co-founder was seen holding the couple’s daughter, Olympia, as they cheered on the sportswoman.

For the occasion, the proud father wore a black T-shirt and trainers which coordinated perfectly with his daughter’s black Nike shoes and leopard print and black co-ord.

In 2011 and 2012, Ohanian was named to the Forbes "30 Under 30" list as an important figure in the technology industry.
