Torah & Fulfilling the Covenants: What's the importance of Hanukkah, Passover, kosher foods & more?

What are Hanukkah and Passover commemorating? What is a rabbi and why go to synagogue? What are kosher foods? Why are these and other Jewish traditions so important?

The path back to the life G-d had intended for man can be thought of as "the way of the Torah." To follow the way of the Torah, one must fulfill their covenant with G-d. We'll discuss how to do that, and where this all might eventually lead the Jewish people, in this lecture. This is from Professor Galindo's college course on Comparative Religion.

Think about how you talk, dress, the products you desire, social events you attend, celebrations you participate in, and even the specific goals you have in your life. Some (a lot?) of what you do can be seen as the result of unwritten covenants between you and your culture, believing that if you live your life a certain way you will be accepted, rewarded, and allowed to flourish.

Reflecting on your own behaviors, in what ways have the unwritten covenants you have had with your culture led you towards what you most value? In what ways has it led you away from what you most value?
