John Denver The Mega Concert Experience

I never had the chance to see John in concert. My first "live experience" was seeing his Birmingham 1986 concert on the BBC with my folks. We recorded it on an old VHS and watched it over and over again, often with a hot cup of oxo to drink accompanied with crackers and cheese. So the idea for putting together this concert "experience" was out of the thought, if I were to see John in concert, what songs would I like to hear? And as an extension of that; what versions of his songs resonated most with me? The interpretations of John's songs changed over the years and in some instances came full circle. He worked with some amazing musicians and artists in their own right. On a lot of the songs I could have included multiple variations, dependent on my mood at the time; such is the gift he and his band have given us.

It's clear that in performing was where he truly excelled. His ability to become immersed and bring the listener into the tale - even those songs he hadn't personally written - was and is a rare gift that few performers have the ability to do. As grateful as I am for listening to the studio albums; sometimes a song that I previously dismissed, was transformed into a favourite when watching a live rendition of it. This really hit home to me whilst sourcing the songs and listening to different versions to find the ones I felt appropriate for this video - including a few treasures with some special guests! (You'll have to watch the full five hours to see who!)

Apart from transferring some tracks in from my personal JD collection, there is not one piece of video that was made by me that I hold any rights to. I simply compiled the videos from existing public material in an order and type that appealed to me. This project wouldn't have been possible without the fabulous material posted on YouTube already by dedicated fans, and I thank you wholeheartedly for that. Under the track listing I include a link back to the source. If I forget anyone, please let me know so I can appropriately recognise their work.
