Could this kill airsoft? New regulations explained

Here's what you need to know about a potental new regulation on airsoft in the United States.

Two notes I've seen confusion on:
Many people have said that this has zero impact on airsoft because of § 1272.1 section B. However, airsoft does not fall under the standards of ASTM F589–85, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Powder Guns which is referenced there. This is partially because those regulations were created before airsoft. If you read those standards, it quickly becomes obvious they do not apply to airsoft guns, because it mentions things like rifled barrels, trigger weight, etc. You can read F589-85 on the ASTM website, but it requires an account to read for free.

Also, airsoft would not require a third-party testing lab because airsoft guns are not considered childrens toys. Adult use products can be verified in house once standards are set. You can learn more about this on the CPSC website: https://www.cpsc.gov/Regulations-Laws--Standards

An Issue that can still arise is if importers are marking airsoft replicas as toys on their customs documents, which would require 3rd party testing. This is just another reason I argue airsoft needs to push for clearer definitions.
