The Kamla Show: Mahesh Kale on Music, Engineering & Technology

Mahesh Kale shares why he gave up engineering to pursue a career in music. Kale won an award for the best playback singer at the 63rd National Film Award in India. This was for the Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali.

Award winning Kale lives in Silicon Valley where he teaches Indian classical music to about 100 students. When he is not teaching he travels around the world giving performances.

Kale shares how he uses technology to help him. He has a wiki page for his students, uses WhatsApp to send them their homework and uses Skype video to teach his students when he is traveling. And then there is a tempura app on his iPhone that he uses when he practices or does his riyaz every day.

Kale was born and brought up in Pune, Maharashtra, India. His mother was his first music teacher and later on studied with Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki.
