Performing a Dry Compression Test on a Briggs & Stratton Small Engine

In this video I go through the steps of doing a dry compression test using an automotive compression gauge on a Briggs & Stratton small engine. This video is specific to the Snapper garden tiller with a 5 horsepower horizontal shaft engine, but the steps and techniques will work on any Briggs small engine. I also check the compression by turning the flywheel and feeling the compression stroke. An engine compression test is a quick and easy way to check a cylinder to determine whether the engine itself is capable to run. When you have a no start condition and you are getting fuel and spark, a compression test should be done. Compression PSI specifications can vary depending on model and horsepower size.
