PSX Longplay [245] Rollcage

Wipeout on wheels. Rollcage was/is another great game from psygnosis that for reasons unknown has been left to history with no new versions since the original pc/ps1 release of Rollcage stage 2.

Progression on the first game is quite simple. Complete all 3 leagues in Easy mode to unlock Hard Mode. Complete Hard Mode to unlock Expert Mode, and complete Expert Mode to complete the game. Completiting Easy and Hard modes while coming in first place in every race unlock additional deathmatch and bonus levels. Completing Hard mode unlocks Yuri which I use throughout the Expert run just to give me a fighting chance. I also show full replays in the Expert run. Sure it drags it out a bit, but nothing much happens in the easy/hard run that would show in a replay.

The game can be feindishly difficult at times and if you lose sight of the racer in 1st, you stand no chance of winning. However if you are in 1st, the ai are just a stones throw behind waiting for you to make a mistake and leave you for dust. Thanfully the ai can make mistakes and crash into stuff as well, although they still have a near instant catch up ability. I show all characters by using a different one for each league and they all have there own ending animation.

00:50:40 - Hard - Taurus league - Toni - Unlocks Expert Mode and Yuri. Unlocks Sapphire Bonus track.
01:06:00 - Expert - Gemini league - Yuri
01:23:20 - Expert - Scorpio league - Yuri
01:44:20 - Expert - Taurus league - Yuri - Unlocks developer Laptimes in Time Trial Mode.

From this point on, I turn on the weather effects and motion blur to show those features. At least weather should have had a random option to use in a normal playthrough or the races should have had it forced at least on expert difficulty. The effect is quite good although it does make the levels quite dark. That said, I didnt change any settings at the start as it would have only made it more difficult. A major oversight also means I have to show these levels in time Attack mode as there is no option to play them in a single race against the ai.
