New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially broken ground on a massive affordable housing initiative that aims to build 50,000 new affordable homes across 100+ city-owned sites. The project follows the launch of the Land Inventory Fast Track (LIFT) program and includes a new public LIFT Tracker, allowing New Yorkers to monitor construction progress in real time. Mamdani says the goal is to ensure city-owned land is no longer sitting idle but is instead transformed into affordable housing, libraries, and community spaces across all five boroughs. The ambitious plan marks one of the largest city-led affordable housing efforts in recent NYC history.
