Post-Ebola Resilience project

The ‘Post-Ebola Resilience project’ works on improving the health and well-being of communities in Sierra Leone and Guinea. It’s strengthening their resilience and preparedness to cope with outbreaks like Ebola and other emerging infectious diseases that originate at the interface between human, and animal environments.

Funded by the Royal Embassy of the Netherlands in Accra, Ghana, this project is a unique collaboration between various institutes to work on the One Health Initiative, and South-South Cooperation (KIT-Royal Tropical Institute, Wageningen University, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Njala University, IRAG, Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food Security of Sierra Leone, Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene of Guinea, Health Development Partnership Rwanda and Health Focus Guinea).

One Health recognizes that the health of humans, animals and ecosystems are interconnected. It involves applying a coordinated, collaborative, multidisciplinary and cross-sectorial approach including the communities to address potential or existing risks that originate at the human-animal-ecosystems interface. We bring together the expertise from African organisations to implement “African solutions for Africa” on anthropology, veterinary sciences, laboratory sciences, public health and health financing.
