Oregon 1983 Cold Case SOLVED | The Evidence Sat in a Lab for 16 Years and No One Knew
In the summer of 1983, twenty-seven-year-old Teresa JoAnn Peroni walked into the woods behind a party in Selma, Oregon, with her boyfriend. He came back. She did not.
There was no body. No crime scene. No confession. Just a missing persons file, a suspect who moved to California and started over, and a brown purse delivered anonymously to a sheriff's department one year later containing Teresa's epilepsy medication — the prescription she never went anywhere without.
Fourteen years passed before anyone found anything. In 1997, a human skull was recovered less than a mile from where Teresa was last seen. Investigators suspected it was hers. They could not prove it. The DNA attempt failed. Then, in 2004, a detective tried to retrieve the skull for new testing and was told by the system that no one knew where it was.
It had been sitting in a forensic laboratory in Fort Worth, Texas the entire time.
In this cold case documentary, we trace the full forty-three-year arc of the Teresa Peroni investigation: the 1983 disappearance, the institutional failures that buried the case for decades, the forensic DNA technology that finally identified her remains in 2024, and the guilty plea entered in an Oregon courtroom in April 2026 by the man who was with her the night she vanished.
Watch until the end. The most important detail in this case is not the guilty plea. It is the sixteen years the evidence spent lost inside the system that was supposed to be protecting it.
