My coverage of the 2017 NFL Draft continues this week with one of the most talented, but also most heavily-debated prospects in this entire class, Michigan State DT/DE Malik McDowell.
A former consensus five-star prospect out of high school who had offers from every major program you can think of, McDowell chose Michigan State (against his mother's wishes) and immediately became an major contributor on one of the best teams in the country. His production sadly never mirrored his real impact throughout his career as a Spartan, but opposing coaches and players alike have always attested to McDowell's game-breaking talent. When he was "on", nobody could stop him - and I mean NOBODY.
Players with this unique blend of size, length, strength, fluidity, and quickness are rare breeds. He may have an inconsistent motor and plenty of technical flaws to iron out, but if you put this caliber of athlete in a good locker room and give him a defensive line coach that can mold him, you will likely end up with the unholy hybrid of Carlos Dunlap and Muhammad Wilkerson. If THAT does not sound like someone worthy of a top-10 pick to you, then I just don't know what else I can say.
Enjoy the episode, everyone!
