2018 FIFA World Cup: Kaliningrad Stadium (360 VIDEO)

Kaliningrad Stadium is a brand new venue built for the World Cup on the territory of the city’s Oktyabrsky (October) Island, which is not far from some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including the main cathedral and the burial place of philosopher Immanuel Kant, who was born in the city.

The stadium designers were forced to change their plans several times during the construction process due to unsteady ground at the site, and took inspiration from Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.

The stadium was originally planned to hold 45,000 fans, but the number was later scaled down.

Kaliningrad Stadium will host group games during the World Cup. After the tournament, it will be the new home of local club FC Baltika Kaliningrad, and the area around the stadium will be redeveloped to include residential properties, parks, and other features along the embankments of the Pregola river.
