Physalis alkekengi is an amazing macro photography subject!

Physalis alkekengi (the scientific name) has many other names including the bladder cherry, Japanese-lantern, strawberry groundcherry, winter cherry, or Hozuki in Japanese. We know them as Chinese lantern fruit for their distinctive "lantern" like structure. They are a fascinating subject to study and photograph in macro, especially in their various states of decay and with a dedicated macro light source.

In this macro photography tutorial, we will be exploring Physalis alkekengi close up with our macro lens and lighting. Making the most of the unique structure of the plant that surrounds the berries inside.
