In a bold move, Dr Varinder Pal Singh, Principal Soil Chemist with the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana refused to accept a gold medal and Golden Jubilee Award for Excellence from the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers in solidarity with the protesting farmers. In a moving open speech, he said his conscience doesn't allow him to receive the award while farmers are protesting on the roads. He had shared the medal and award with Dr K. S. Subramanian from TNAU, Coimbatore.
