Phoenix Fire Department urges crucial water safety measures ahead of summer

The Phoenix Fire Department and city are urging families to practice water safety, especially with children, as we get into the summer season. PHX Fire Captain Rob McDade says ensuring kids are actively monitored near water and otherwise blocking access to the pool is critical to keeping kids safe. City of Phoenix aquatic supervisor Becky Kirk also emphasizes teaching young ones how to swim at a young age can help them self-rescue if an incident does occur, highlighting this can begin at the age of 6 months old. Public pools across the Valley are offering low-cost swimming lessons. Lastly, PHX Fire Captain Kenny Overton with union Local 493 says they can provide assistance in getting a pool fence installed as well as teach you how to perform potentially life-saving CPR.
