Hi there, my name is Kris Lauren, and I am a professional artist and illustrator specializing in digital resource creation. Drawing and painting have been my passions for as long as I can remember, and it’s my pleasure to share the knowledge I have gained with you.

I’m trained as a traditional and digital artist, as well as in 2D and 3D animation and I enjoy using all of these aspects in my work.

I’m the creator of the top-selling Cute Artist Studio and the Pretty Artist Studio.

Both were made using traditional painting techniques and with the intent of inspiring and educating beginner artists.

I’ve created this course for anyone who would like to learn character design and as this is the cute edition, how to draw and paint cute characters specifically. Whether you’re just starting out, or have some experience, this course has something for you.

If you’re a beginner, that’s no problem, this course is designed to start at the very beginning, and I’ll be walking you through the whole way.

This course will be demonstrated using an iPad and Procreate, but you can follow along using your favourite app or software, like Photoshop or Affinity, or even traditional media if you prefer.

We’ll start with the basics of character design, how to develop your character and tell a story, we’ll explore what makes something cute, do loads of fun practice activities and build cute characters step by step, from simple shapes to final pieces and move on to more advanced designs, creating adorable characters that you’ll be really proud of.

The course will have theory and a ton of practical examples, and you’ll learn through easy, step-by-step projects that build on each other to improve your skills.

You’ll learn how to create strong characters by understanding shape language, silhouette, scale and more. You’ll practice how to draw individual elements of a character, like head shapes, eyes, mouths and limbs, to help you gain confidence. Then we’ll move on to 6 final projects where you’ll learn to draw 12 cute character designs one step at a time.

As a bonus, I’ll also show you how to draw a character in 3 views, while still maintaining their size, shape and proportions.

And, as an additional bonus, I’ll show you how to prep for files so you can export them while still keeping the lovely canvas texture and have them ready for print.

After you finish this course, you’ll have new confidence in drawing and painting cute characters once you’ve walked through the whole process, beginning to end.

You’ll have covered all the steps it takes from the first thumbnail to final piece, and you’ll understand the reasons behind all your artistic choices.

I’ve even included a small set of custom brushes, swatches and canvas for Procreate, Photoshop and Affinity so you’ll have everything you need right at your fingertips to complete this course.
