As a humble offering on the holy occasion of composer-saint Sri Tyagaraja’s 254th birth anniversary, here is a rendition of Mariyada Gadayya in Raga: Bhairavam, Tala: Adi.

“It is unseemly of you Rama! What is it that keeps you from protecting me? I haven’t learnt to bear this separation!”

Sri Tyagaraja beseeches dearest Lord Srirama for kindness and protection, in his only composition in this uncommmon Raga that so poignantly brims with a medley of emotions. Inseparably blended in this Kriti are the intensity of bhava and the fluidity of musical composition. A desperate call for mercy indeed, in this timeless composition as is the need of the hour.
