There are a few reasons you might want or need to shave with bar soap. Maybe hoping to save money by buying fewer grooming products or reduce your number of needed grooming supplies. Maybe you’ve run out of shaving cream or shaving soap and need to shave immediately or are traveling and forget your shaving cream or soap and can’t buy more.

For most of history, men didn’t use shaving cream which came about in modern era. However, as early as 3000 BC, people recognized that certain soap formulations were better for shaving.

Eventually, two distinct types of soap developed. Cleansing soaps for cleaning body and face and shaving soaps for shaving your face.

Basically, Raphael's skin is smooth all over, but he tried all these techniques on one face in one shaving go in order to get a proper comparison. Otherwise, he’d have to stretch out this test over probably ten days, and it’s hard to compare how the shave was on the first day versus the last day.

In terms of results, on the kind of easy areas, you get a good result, if you have thick hair like Raphael, we’d suggest you rather bring an electric shaver in your carry-on luggage than rely on bar soap and whatever shaver you can get in case the airline loses your luggage because it is not a fun experience.
