When Patton Defied Eisenhower's Order to Halt—And Why Victory Came Before His Final Push

Patton's Third Army reached western Czechoslovakia in May 1945, close enough to Prague for the city to feel within reach. Eisenhower ordered him to stop at the agreed line, first after the Mulde halt and later outside Prague's road. Patton obeyed, turned his strength where orders allowed, liberated Pilsen, took surrender after surrender, and watched Germany collapse around him. The war ended because Hitler was dead, Berlin had fallen, German command was broken, and millions of Allied soldiers were closing every escape. Patton wanted one more road.
