Repairing a motorcycle starter motor

In this video you can follow me as I dismantle and fix the starter motor from a Suzuki GSX1100 or GS1100 motorcycle. This design of starter motor is pretty common across a lot of Japanese motorcycles so the checking and repair will be similar for a range of bikes.

Whilst I quote specifications in here for the starter motor I am overhauling, you should check your workshop manual or seek specialist advice before attempting something similar on your bike. The fault for this starter motor was worn out brushes, but in the video, I take the viewer through checking the complete electrical side of the starter motor. However, in the interests of keeping the video short I did not cover the bearings in any detail, but these were also checked and re-greased as part of the overhaul.

The brushes were replaced with ones that I sourced through eBay from Faryear Ltd in the United Kingdom.
