My Ultimate Submariner? - How Tudor & Rolex Perfected The 7928 Watch
Today I have the pleasure of exploring a very special watch indeed. Before the revitalized, modern Tudor became a hit, and before the famous “Snowflake” Subs were issued to France’s elite Marine Nationale, Tudor was already making waves with their 7900 series of early Submariner watches.
This first era of Tudor dive watches not only set the standards that the brand would build upon over the next 50 years, but they were also the first watches to be issued to the most elite of military divers, the US Navy Seals. These watches are now becoming well respected, highly desired, and out from the shadow of the more common offerings from big brother brand Rolex and their Submariner equivalent references.
In this video I discuss how this watch became the legend it has and why it’s been the top choice for world-class divers. I share why I would buy this Tudor over a previously purchased (and subsequently sold) vintage BlancPain Bathyscaphe MC4 from the same historic era. Join me as I test it out on an excursion to some of my favorite places to unwind in New York City’s Central Park.
Ultimately I ask: Is the ever increasing price worth it? Could this be the dream steel Submariner dive watch I always wanted? Let’s dive in and find out!
