Le Sacre du Printemps is one of his most famous works. The première of the work turned into a genuine scandal. The composition and the stage production broke with all conventions, resulting in physical confrontations among the audience. However, the piece only began receiving the recognition it deserved when concert performances became more regular. As an embodiment of the "emancipation of the percussion section" in which a rhthmic - as opposed to a melodic - element becomes the basis for the music's development, Le Sacre du Printemps can be considered an iconic work that has inspired subsequent generations of listeners, musicians and composers.
