Why there is no such thing as good or bad food | Pixie Turner | TEDxLondonWomen
Are there foods that you have labelled as ‘good’ or ‘bad’? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone; the majority of us have been conditioned to assign morals to our meals, something that nutritionist Pixie Turner is determined to change. From why emotional eating is an inevitable part of being human, to the transformative power of approaching our hunger with curiosity instead of judgement, Pixie explores the relationship between food, our emotions and mental health.
Pixie is a registered nutritionist (RNutr), trainee psychotherapist and science communicator. Alongside her degrees in biochemistry and nutrition, she’s developed a huge following on her ‘Pixie Nutrition’ social media accounts. Pixie shows up as a nutrition expert on BBC, Sky and Channel 5, and divides her time between her clinic, social media, teaching, hosting her podcast In Bad Taste, and public speaking. Her work aims to bridge the gap between nutrition and psychotherapy, looking at food metabolically, emotionally, and metaphorically. She has written several books, including her most recent The Insta-Food Diet: How Social Media has Shaped the Way We Eat (2020). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
