Off the grid in Alaska | A Workaway Experience
I recently went to Clam Gulch, Alaska for six weeks to do another Workaway. This time I was helping take care of 32 sled dogs and 30-something chickens while living off the grid. My tasks ranged from harvesting vegetables from the garden to chopping kindling to harnessing the dogs for a sled run. This was my first time experiencing life with no electricity or running water, and it really opened my eyes to how life can be without the everyday conveniences of our modern world. There are some things like the simple push of a button to turn on a heater or the turning of a knob to get running water from a sink, which I will never take for granted anymore. Here are some snippets from my six week experience in Clam Gulch.
