These 5 Foods are BIG Keto MISTAKES - Avoid Them - Thomas DeLauer
We all love a good, easy LIST, right?! It makes our trips to the grocery store, preparing our meals for the week, and reaching our goals EASIER! So I want to give you the 5 WORST KETO CHOICES! Avoid these foods on your next keto shopping list!
Hydrogenated Cooking Oils
Grapeseed oil
Omega-6 PUFA: 70% Omega-6! Higher than any other cooking oil.
Processing & Nutrient Density: Usually extracted using hexane, a toxic chemical solvent and also heated, damaging the fragile 70% Omega-6.
Highly refined with basically no micronutrients except for a trace amount of vitamin E. Hazelnut oil has 15-times as much vitamin E.
Soybean oil
Omega-6 PUFA: ~50%.
Processing & Nutrient Density: Usually extracted using hexane, a toxic chemical solvent and also heated and sometimes even hydrogenated.
Highly refined with no micronutrients except for a little bit of vitamin K.
Corn oil
Omega-6 PUFA: ~60%.
Processing & Nutrient Density: Usually extracted using hexane, a toxic chemical solvent, bleached, and also heated up to 500°F!
Canola oil (a.k.a. Rapeseed oil)
Omega-6 PUFA: 28%.
Processing & Nutrient Density: Almost always chemically processed.
REFINED Coconut oil
Omega-6 PUFA: Basically none.
Processing & Nutrient Density: Heated and often bleached. This kills the excellent antioxidants in would-be virgin coconut oil
Cheap/Wrong Type of Dairy
A1 Casein - BCM-7 is a bioactive opioid peptide which is formed in much greater levels when we consume dairy with A1 beta-casein when compared to A2 beta-casein
Cheap Keto Bar
Keto bars typically have similar ingredients: sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners, and some form of a thickening agent
Sucralose e.g.
Study from Nature - Artificial Sweeteners (Saccharin, Sucralose, Aspartame) Effect on Microbiome, dysbiosis
groups of mice fed any of three different artificial sweeteners (saccharin, sucralose, and aspartame) as compared to mice fed normal sugars (glucose and sucrose). Worryingly, all of the mice that were fed the artificial sweeteners quickly developed glucose intolerance, a harbinger of diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease.
the artificial sweeteners altered the mice’s gut bacteria. To test to see if the change in the gut bacteria caused the artificial sweetener-induced metabolic disruption, the researchers transplanted the gut bacteria from the mice fed artificial sweeteners to mice that had no gut bacteria. Sure enough, the recipient mice became glucose intolerant as well
The researchers gave 7 healthy people who did not normally consume artificial sweeteners, foods containing artificial sweeteners for 1 week. In just 1 week, 4 of the 7 people developed glucose intolerance (c). What’s more, when the microbiomes from these people were transferred into mice without microbiomes, those mice also became glucose intolerant
