How I Live On $1 MEALS! | Frugal Meals That Cost $3 A Day

For the last 6 months, I've been living on $1 meals. Every single meal, every single day. This isn't some challenge where I'm only eating $1 meals for a week - I've genuinely been doing this on purpose for over half a year. And in this video I want to show everyone out there that ANYBODY - including you - can eat simple and healthy $1 meals too!

Let's get started with the basics. I keep my monthly spending on food at about $90 per month, and when you eat 3 meals per day for about 30 days per month, you find yourself spending $90 per month on 90 meals in a month. That right there is how I get my meals to equal out to $1 meals, by focusing on my monthly spending and trying to keep my entire food budget at (or below) $90 per month. It also means I'm spending $3 a day on food, or basically buying $3 a day meals.

And before I get into the exact foods that I buy or the meals that I actually cook, I think it's important to note where I buy my groceries from. This is the first step in the entire process, and for me, my path towards finding the cheapest, healthiest, and most fulfilling $1 meals has taken a long time. I've shopped at nearly every grocery store in the U.S... Target, Safeway, Fry's, King Soopers, City Market, Walmart, and even Food City. But today, in order to make these $1 meals, I split my grocery shopping between two stores:

Costco and Trader Joe's.

The combination of these two grocery stores right here is one of my biggest frugal living tips/frugal living hacks - in my opinion, these two yield the highest value for money of all other options. I get most everything from Costco (especially everything that I can buy in bulk, i.e. rice, beans, chips, etc) and then everything else from Trader Joe's. I find that Trader Joe's is incredibly (and surprisingly) cheap, while also being very high quality and healthy! I had never shopped at a Trader Joe's until about a year ago, and I can now honestly say that I can't imagine shopping for my groceries anywhere else.

So there we go, that's the first big frugal tip of the video: find grocery stores that work for you! Costco and TJ's work for me, now it's up to you to find which stores work for you. What I will say is that there are plenty of things you can do to actually save some money at the grocery store, and if you're looking for tips on that, make sure you click on the link to my "Frugal Grocery Tips" video down below!

And now... drum roll please... it's time to go over these $1 meals! I've talked about them for so long, but this video finally goes into detail about exactly what they are, how I make them, and how ANYBODY out there can make them too. I genuinely look forward to each of these meals every single day, I've never grown tired of any of them, and I promise that every person watching this video has the cooking skills to actually prepare them.

It's important to note that in order to actually live off of this frugal budget, you should definitely look into eating the same meals every single day. I know variety is the spice of life, but if you're looking to save money on food, you might need to give it up. I gave up on variety months ago, and I can honestly say that I'm at peace with my decision! I don't miss the extra variety... in fact, I enjoy my diet being simpler. I never worry about what I'm going to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and peace of mind is something that I will always value above money.

So in this video I get into exactly what my frugal meals on a budget actually are. At the end of the video, I go over every single item that I purchase on a monthly basis and show the EXACT price of every food item. These frugal foods are also the exact foods that make up my frugal grocery haul - the entire makeup of my shopping cart when I do go to Costco/Trader Joe's.

I don't want to spoil too much of the video, so make sure you watch the entire vid to see everything broken down in detail. If you all did enjoy this video, make sure to turn that like button blue before you go!

And as always, I hope everyone out there is having an amazingly frugal day, and I will see you all again next time!
