Nikita Nagorny is a Russian gymnast, one of the main hopes of the national team for medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Nikita is a three-time world champion, six-time European champion in individual and team disciplines, and a silver medalist at the 2016 Olympic Games in team competitions.

Nikita's first international start was the European Junior Championships in 2014, where the 17-year-old gymnast became the silver medalist in the team tournament and the winner of the vault competition. Thanks to his results, Nikita got a ticket to the second Youth Olympic Games, held in the same year in Nanjing, China. At those Games, the Russian national team won the absolute majority of medals in gymnastic disciplines. Of the eleven awards of the national team, Nagorny won gold in parallel bars, exercises on horseback and on rings, silver in all-around and bronze in vault.

Since 2015, Nagorny has been performing in the adult category. The high results shown at the national championship of that year gave him the opportunity to compete in the European Championships, from where he returned with gold in the vault. In 2016, Nikita again became the European champion, this time in team all-around and floor exercise. As part of the Russian national team, the 19-year-old gymnast won silver at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In individual disciplines Nikita got into the final round only in the vault and eventually finished fifth. These games are not the most productive for the Russian men's national artistic gymnastics team ⁠ - the leaders of the national team David Belyavsky and Denis Ablyazin reached only bronze in the individual standings on parallel bars and rings, respectively.

2017 did not become the best year in Nagorny's career: the reigning Russian champion ⁠ on parallel bars was only third at the European Championships, and at the World Championships of the same year he qualified for the final only in the all-around and eventually closed the top ten.
