Last off the line: MDW Ernte Meister 527 STS | Fortschritt heritage | Harvest 2019

The Germany combine factory VEB Fortschritt Mähdrescherwerk Bischofswerda/Singwitz build a lot of well known combine harvesters since the early 1950s under the DDR Fortschritt brand. Beforehand the facility was run by Raussendorf since 1888 who had been building machines such as balers there. Popular models such as the E512, E516 and E514 were build here.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall the factory continued under the MDW name. The 527 STS replaced the previously launched 527 in 1994. Case IH bought the brand in 1997, continued production of the 500-series, and closed production in 1999. Today Case IH no longer builds conventional straw walker machines. However, combine manufacturing continues until this day in Singwitz with production of the Hege plot combines and green crop loaders.

This combine was originally sold new in France. It's year of production is not known. It is now working with the Janse family in Hank, the Southwest of the Netherlands. Here we find it gathering in the 2019 winter barley crop during a very hot 4th of July. It's blue companion is a Ford 680 Gen III with locally build BAV trailer.
