How to Integrate by Parts
This tutorial introduces the method of integration by parts for solving integrals. I show how to derive the integration by parts formula, and then use it to work through an example integration. In general, when integrating by parts, you will want to split your initial integrated into two parts; one that is easy to derive, and one that is easy to integrate. These will be parts u, and dv, respectively. From there you will derive u and rearrange to get du, and integrate dv to get v. Once you’ve done that, you will have all elements required for the integration by parts formula. You can now plug and chug. You’ll still have to do one more integration as per the second term of the equation, but it should be significantly easier than the original one.
This video is part of a full free calculus 2 course. The course covers integration by table, integration by substitution, integration by parts, partial fraction decomposition, improper integrals, numerical integration, double integration, triple integration, and partial derivatives.
