Visualizer vs drawing tablet for online learning, document camera vs graphics tablet which is best?
Wouldn't be without a visualiser, but use the tablet more often. Both? Twitter poll.
For online learning, which is best? A drawing tablet, or a visualiser... or maybe you call them a graphics tablet and a document camera. But which one will you use more, and which will actually give you the best experience for your students for online teaching, or remote tutoring!?
Most people agree, they would rather have the pen tablet. I agree I use it every day, but really it's just for convenience. there's really not much that I can do with the pen display that I cannot with the visualiser. Yeah, it's great for showing maths, algebra etc, but I can do that with a pen and paper. Really most of what I show on a power point I don't really need to annotate... I often do. And I think that is nice to see for the students, to draw and keep their attention, highlight key bits.
Really the main advantage for me of the pen display is not having to print all the worksheets to annotate. And yeah, the ink tools in MS word are generally pretty good I would say! Also remember using the pen creates digital notes, which are always more easy... for me to organise and search through later than paper ones!

Tech is great for teaching, but I want to shout out this tweet. Because I totally feel you. We've recognised a digital divide in our student body, and also our staff body. But you know there is another one. Do you have a space to work? Is there somewhere in your house which is just for you to work. Make space if you can, but consider asking to work in an empty classroom at school if you can as space can do so much for your mood, and your mood can do so much for your teaching... and for me, sometimes buying a shiny new drawing tablet can also do wonders for your mood.

I'll just say something about cost too. Because, well, a good visualiser or document camera is more expensive than a good enough pen tablet. (But a pen display is probably the most expensive.) Incidentally, a pen display is not without it's drawbacks, all day hunched over the pen display will give you a bad back, whereas a drawing tablet you look straight forward and you can sit up straight. You can get a small drawing tablet which is good enough for highlighting a few things on powerpoint and maybe writing a few notes or equations for about 20 quid. Check out my man MathMathX for full buying guides, or just buy anything from wacom, xp pen or huion and I'm sure it'll be fine!
But for modelling you can't get better than a visualiser. I may only use the visualiser for ten minutes of an online lesson, but if I couldn't do that, then I couldn't show the most important part of the lesson. And I'd be stuck with the only option being the demo videos of other youtubers... grr... youtubers. But really it's just relying on something which is not tailored to your class. Which they can't say, "wait, Sir," ... "wait" "what's that thing, and can I see that again." And they don't integrate well into your live lesson. Or you are relying on them to watch someone else's video in their own time, without understanding checks.
