In 1987 at the age of 20 and a few months, after only two years of progression to the rank of 1st kyu in kyokushin karate under the direction of Shigeru Oyama who in 1984 with Yasuhiko Oyama his brother and Miyuki Miura innovated by commonly applying his own organization called USA Oyama Karate and Oyama Karate.
