GeekWire Summit | Power Talk Megan Shen, Associate Professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center
Live from the 2022 GeekWire Summit, How to Fight Against Burnout & Build Hopeful & Resilient Organizations by Embracing Challenges, Grief & Loss
Grief and loss are universally experienced among all of us, yet most businesses don’t create infrastructure for these losses within teams or organizations. Going through the pandemic has highlighted the vast need to structure our teams and organizations in a way that allows for employees to have space for challenging realities and losses in order to create individuals and ultimately teams that thrive. Dr. Shen, an expert in loss, grief, and resilience brings her expertise and the science around grief to illuminate how organizations can rethink what it means to be a human-centered organization in a world where loss is universally experienced. Grounding things like bereavement policies and team structuring to accommodate mental health needs with the framework of the science of grief has the power to create highly resilient and productive teams that create meaningful work far beyond what leaders dream possible. It’s in finding the “light in the wound” that we can emerge from such a challenging season to create more imaginative, impactful, and meaningful work in our organizations.
