Karen Read Defense Grills EMT About Alleged Friendship w/ Albert Daughter

Katie McLaughlin is a firefighter and paramedic in Canton, Massachusetts, who responded to a report of a man in the sow on Jan. 29, 2022.

The man turned out to be John O'Keefe, an officer with the Boston Police Department and the boyfriend of Karen Read. Read is now on trial for his murder.

McLaughlin testified in Read's re-trial today (Monday, May 5, day 9) in Norfolk County Superior Court in Dedham, Massachusetts. Read's lawyer Alan Jackson questioned her in cross-examination.

Prosecutors say Read was drunk when she struck O'Keefe with her car outside Brian Albert's home and drove away. Read’s defense is that Albert is the one who killed O’Keefe, and she’s being framed as part of a broad Massachusetts law enforcement conspiracy.

To support this defense, Jackson is trying to discredit prosecution witnesses who were at the scene that night. That includes McLaughlin, and they're focusing on her "relationship" with Albert's daughter, Caitlin Albert, to try to do so. The two went to the same high school and have been photographed with friends on vacations and at a baby shower.
