Bilaspur Manali Leh railway line would be the highest running railway line in the world. Bilaspur Leh railway line survey is completed and construction will start soon after approval from Planning commission of India. The distance between Bilaspur to leh is 498KM and the construction work should finish before 2022 to 2023.

Today we will discuss the railway coaches and locomotives that will run on this route. We will also get to know if India will manufacture High altitude Railway coaches and locomotives or will import directly from other countries.

Tibet railway is considered as the highest railway line in the world. After the construction, Bilaspur Leh railway line will become the highest railway line in the world with the height from sea bed is 5,360 meters. Bilaspur to Leh railway line will cover 74 tunnels,124 Big bridges, and 396 small bridges.

The cost of construction of Bilaspur Manali Leh railway line is Rupees 83,360 crore and specialized high pressurized high altitude coaches will ply on this route that is designed specially to maintain oxygen level inside the coaches when the train goes through High altitude areas. These airplanes like coaches maintain ai pressure inside the coach to make breathing easy for passengers.

CUrrent Tibet railways is using coaches and locomotives which are made in China. and these specialized coaches and locomotives are used on bilaspur manali leh railway line route.

Coaches that run on Tibet railways are made in China by Bombardier Sifang Power Transportation Ltd. and a total of 121 high altitude railway coaches were constructed between the year 2005 and 2011.
Every train has 16 railway coaches being pulled by 3 dongfeng locomotives.These locomotives are specially designed for high traction and high braking.These locomotives were manufactured in China by DOngfeng Locomotives.
Some newpaper quoted that high pressured and High altitude coaches will be manufactured in India by ICF (Integral Coach Factory) and ICF is told to design and manufacture such high altitude railway coaches . As of now , there is no news that states that Integral coach factory has created a prototype of such high altitude railway coaches.

As of now RDSO has not directed ICF about the features to be incorporated in these High altitude coaches and seeing the completion date of this railway line,it seems that these high altitude coaches will be made in India by Bombardier

Bombardier India is already supplying bogies,traction motors and propulsion systems to Indian Railways. Bombardier is already manufacturing Metro Coaches in India and it requires very small changes in their assembly line to manufacture such high altitude railway coaches for Bilaspur Leh Railway line . There are lot of possibilities that the contract to manufacture such high altitude coaches will be given to Bombardier India under the Make in India Project.

Atleast an order of 100 coaches will be given by Indian railways to start the assembly line of such railway coaches.

LHB Bogies may be used for these coaches.

Any existing more powerful locomotive will be used on this route by modifying to increase the traction power and braking power.Possibly WDG6 or WDG5 will be modified to ply on these routes.

Alco based locomotives might be used on this route and 4 alcos will be used in Push and pull manner.
