Ruby Franke is at the center of renewed controversy following explosive claims made in a memoir by her estranged daughter, Shari Franke. The former family vlogger rose to fame through her YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the daily life of her Mormon family in Utah and amassed more than 2.5 million subscribers after launching in 2015.

In her memoir, In the House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom, Shari alleges that her mother developed an inappropriate and secretive relationship with fellow YouTuber and parenting coach Jodi Hildebrandt. The two formed a business partnership in 2022 through Hildebrandt’s ConneXions platform, later widely criticized for its extreme teachings.

According to Shari, Hildebrandt moved into the Franke family home and eventually shared a bedroom with Ruby, enforcing strict rules that isolated other family members, including Ruby’s husband. Shari recounts discovering signs that suggested the relationship had become intimate, describing the experience as disturbing and deeply destabilizing. She also reflects on the hypocrisy of the pair publicly condemning queerness while allegedly living a private life that contradicted those beliefs.
