Emma decides it’s time to move on in matters of the heart when she realizes she has feelings for new kid Chris. She turns to boy-expert Manny for help. With some encouragement from Manny, Emma hooks up with Chris at the Crystal Rave-- even though he has a girlfriend. But as Emma and Chris kiss, Emma realizes she can’t be with Chris if he’s still with someone else. Meanwhile Manny takes her own advice when she discovers that Craig’s at the rave too – without Ashley. When Emma finds out how far Manny’s willing to go to get what she wants, it’s the final straw in their friendship.
Spinner and Jimmy are both in trouble with their math grades so they ask Marco to tutor them during a Friday night study session. Spinner’s discomfort with Marco’s homosexuality soon has him misinterpreting all of Marco’s behaviour and he ends up convinced that Marco has a crush on him.

Season 3 opens with the pending arrival of a new baby for Spike and Snake, inspiring Emma to start a search for her birth father just as she starts high school. Her friends and fellow schoolmates also face new challenges as they settle into a new school year. Degrassi kids will continue to deal with tough issues this year, including homosexuality, cutting, abuse, teen pregnancy and cancer. These storylines are blended with dating woes, friendship challenges, peer pressure and a healthy dose of fun and laughter.
