Gary's Gang ~ Keep On Dancin' 1978 Disco Purrfection Version
Well, it's the eve of Christmas Eve 2020 and I thought this tasty little number might give you a boost while you are finishing up whatever plans you have for Christmas this year. I definitely would have been out hitting up the club tonight since the bars closed early on the 24th and were closed the 25. But the 26th we made up for lost time...
This group is from Queens, NY with Gary Turnier on drums, Eric Matthew on vocals and guitar, Al Lauricella and Rino Minetti on keyboards, Bill Catalano on percussion, Bob Forman on the sax and Jay Leon on trombone.
Signed to SAM Records with a distribution deal through Columbia Records in 1978, the band hit big with their debut single "Keep On Dancin'" taking the top spot on the Billboard Disco Action Chart for one week. The immediate follow up was "Do Ya Wanna Go Dancin'" from their second LP and it peaked at #54.
Their final charting singles came in 1982 with the #25 disco chart hit "Knock Me Out" and then 1983 gave them the #8 disco hit "Making Music".
The club music was particularly intoxicating when this was a hit in the Winter of 1978 and the spring of 1979, there were so many songs that played in the clubs and on the radio. Looking back, it seems that while radio stations played it they failed to acknowledge it on their reports so those songs lost out. This is where the Play it, Say it came around to encourage radio to properly report what they played.
