2026.02.09 (#340) - Software Engineering Management Myths: Uladzimir Ziankevich

There are many so-called laws, rules, and theories in software engineering management that are often used to justify how we make decisions and organize teams and systems — but what if many of them are myths? In this thought-provoking talk, I challenge several well-known ideas (including Tuckman's team development stages and Conway's Law), and invite the audience to rethink what truly drives effective collaboration and delivery. The goal of the talk is not to dismiss these models, but to encourage a more critical and responsible approach to decision-making. I focus on how and why these “laws” turn into myths, what signals indicate that a model is being misapplied, and what leaders can keep in mind when making decisions based on conventional wisdom.
