Sub-Mariner Card Preview | Fun With a Catch? | Marvel Snap

Sub-Mariner is almost here — and he's bringing friends. At 1 Cost and 2 Power, his ability triggers whenever he's Empowered: add a random 1-Cost character to your hand with that same power increase. The more you buff him, the bigger the 1-cost cards he generates. In theory it's a snowball of small but powerful cards — in practice there's a hand management question worth thinking about.

In this preview I cover the best synergies to build around Sub-Mariner, including Marvel Boy, Agony and Shang-Chi Master of the Ten Rings, as well as the counters to watch out for — Killmonger, Deafening Chord and other disablers, and Elektra. The deck concept is Nautical Dump, combining Sub-Mariner's Empowered triggers with a Dracula discard shell to dump high cost cards like She-Hulk and The Infinaut, while Hit-Monkey scales off the flood of cheap cards Sub-Mariner generates. Zoo archetypes that look to fill the board with buffed 1-cost cards are another natural home for him too.

The potential is genuinely exciting but whether the hand fills up faster than you can manage depends heavily on how you build around him. Personally, I feel he's worth picking up and experimenting with on day one.
