Project Delivery Across Industrial Sectors: A Construction Perspective
Construction delivery approaches used in large scale outdoor energy projects share many foundational principles with those required in complex industrial environments, including indoor Advanced Technology and Life Sciences (ATLS) facilities. However, delivering projects across different industrial sectors requires adapting how planning, sequencing, and execution decisions are made.
Highly constrained industrial environments introduce critical limitations – such as restricted space, controlled access, high interface density, stringent cleanliness requirements, and rigorous validation protocols – that significantly increase sensitivity to early planning and design discipline. In these settings, execution predictability is established through deliberate early decisions and cannot be recovered once construction is underway.
This session compares how energy and ATLS projects are delivered across the key phases of planning, execution, testing, commissioning, and handover. Through practical examples, it illustrates how complexity arises not from project size, but from interfaces, sequencing, and timing.
Drawing on real world project experience and supported by digital tools, technology, and automation, the session highlights why clear packages of work enable better coordination, why interface ownership must be defined early, and why discipline and timing – rather than technology alone – are essential to achieving predictable outcomes in complex industrial environments.
Subject matter experts Dario Rigaud and Charles August Haguisan are joined by Giulia Addiego Mobilio to bring diverse regional perspectives and cross sector experience from delivering complex industrial and energy projects around the world.
