It was 110 years ago at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, when Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first manned flight in powered aircraft. However, Boeing created the modern airline industry just 13 years after the Wright Brothers conceived of the airplane. William E. Boeing established the company in Seattle in 1916, and today it employs around 175,000 people across the globe.
Having its own fire service, security force, fully equipped medical facility, electrical substations, and water treatment plant, the Everett factory is like a tiny city in and of itself. Parts for the 787 Boeing Dreamliner came from all over the world. Only 400,000 components went into the 737's construction. The Boeing Everett facility is the biggest building in the world, according to Guinness World Records, with a volume of 472 million cubic feet (13.3 million cubic meters).
