Today let us discuss some basic information regarding honey farming. There are many conditions in honey farming. Carefulness,cleanliness,skills, courage, patience etc. are very important.
The place is known as "Guthigaru", one of my friends house, they engage in honey farming since 30 years. Today we are showing you how to collect beehive and put them in honey farming box.
First step is to clean the box thoroughly and apply honey to it. If honey is applied to the box, bees will easily stay in it, as they familiarize it soon.
While showing the honey box in the video, it is informed that, honey is collected from the "Super box" only, i.e.from the upper side of it.
Second step is to tie the box while carrying. Other than box, we carry other necessary things like sword, knife, honey, coconut husk, a clean cloth, ropes, matchbox etc..
As this is a rubber farm, honey bees collect honey from rubber flowers.
While collecting the beehive, the person must be careful enough, as that bees shouldn't be hurted. If they are hurted, they harm to the individuals.
Such net is formed by bees to collect honey in it. There are many eggs in it, which will turn into new bees. It is better to tie the natural net instead buying it from market. If natural nets are unavailable, then you can tie readymade nets bought from outside market. Then these honey nets are arranged neatly in the box.
This process of collecting beehives is done in the month of January or February only.
There are 3 types of bees, work bees(female bees)which collect honey. Male bees do not work. And the other type is "Queen". Every beehive has a queen bee with it. Without queen bee there is no beehive.
Collecting the beehive becomes easy, if the queen bee goes inside the box, as rest of the bees follow the queen.
Sometimes they collect beehive with the help of light smoke, smoke leads to bees to come out from the hole.
If honey bees bite, a nib is left inside. Remove the nib and apply a little honey for the quick relief. If more than 3-4 bees bite, drink tender coconut water. Sometimes bee biting becomes injurious to children's life.
As all the bees follow the queen bee, it is important to catch the queen in the group.
The box is kept on the stand and necessary precautions are taken to protect the bees from Ants, Bears,Monkies etc.. Water at the stands bottom and the box is covered with a plank sheet.
