One thing that has been an issue in Las Vegas for months now is with the amount of available Uber & Lyft drivers in Clark County. There have been reports of people waiting over an hour for a ride at McCarran International airport just to get a ride to the strip or to Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. This has led to more people using taxis or looking at other ways of getting around the tourist corridor like renting a car, renting a limousine or riding the bus because to some it feels like there are no drivers available.

Governor Steve Sisolak did allow rideshare companies to begin allowing surge pricing just in time for Memorial Day Weekend to help reduce the wait times that many tourists were facing while traveling to Las Vegas. However, there are still issues with long wait times, which is why Uber & Lyft are offering more generous bonus to drivers than you would normally see. One driver here told me that he typically makes $1,500 to $1,700 a week driving 3 days a week for about 12 hours each time. He did say that if he worked even more, he could make about $8,000 a month! One drive showed me on his Lyft app that he gets a bonus for every single ride that he takes, and Lyft gives another bonus if you stage in the parking lot by UNLV to pick up passengers that are just landing in Las Vegas at the airport.

Since Nevada is set to continue to receive federal unemployment money until September 6, this could be a great summer for people living in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas to make a good chunk of money driving (and tips!) from Uber & Lyft.
